🎨 Meeting of Two Worlds – A Joint Exhibition by Ferenc Puha and István Vanyúr in Hegykő
Between July 11–20, 2025, as part of the Tízforrás Festival, the Old Schoolhouse in Hegykő hosted a remarkable exhibition that brought together the creative worlds of two complementary artists – painter Ferenc Puha and sculptor István Vanyúr.
Ferenc Puha’s nonfigurative paintings record the passage of time and the transformation of space as a sensitive, subjective “visual diary,” where colors and shapes become deeply personal imprints. Into this painterly space step the distinct bronze sculptures of István Vanyúr, whose material weight and strong presence open new dimensions. Two differing artistic perspectives met here – creating a unique experience where painting and sculpture coexisted to form a new spatial harmony.
Ferenc Puha: Emotional Power and Gesture
Puha moves confidently between classical and modern traditions. His latest expressive, colorful paintings – especially those in the “Notes from the Island” series – convey raw emotional storms (such as the loss of his wife, or the impact of the pandemic) through bold, spontaneous brushwork. These works are charged with intense emotional energy and color strength – less playful than before, more dramatic and introspective.
István Vanyúr: Sculptural Play with Form
In contrast, Vanyúr’s (“Piru”) small bronze works reflect a playful, often satirical approach, blending organic, mythological, and grotesque motifs. His inspirations include folk elements as well as Bosch, Miró, and Makovecz – with whom he co-created the Atlantis Sculpture Park in Makó.
Two Artists, Two Styles, One Message
Despite stylistic differences, both Puha’s emotionally-driven abstraction and Vanyúr’s refined grotesques reflect high-level craftsmanship and a commitment to artistic integrity and teaching. Their shared goal: to create pure form, an honest artistic signature. The exhibition encouraged visitors not to rely on pre-set interpretations but to truly see and feel – and to discern what truly matters.
It was an honor for us to be part of this tradition-preserving yet innovative cultural initiative as committed partners of the Hegykő community. We are proud that our collaboration led to another high-quality contemporary art exhibition – one that represents the meeting of artistic value and community culture with distinction.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the artists, the organizers – and especially to the many visitors who turned the encounter of these two worlds into their own personal experience.
